No, the auction house does not know your maximum bid. Your bid is securely "sealed" in the LIVE system until the lot is called. Only once the lot has been called does the system bid on your behalf, and only up to the amount that makes you the highest bidder.
Even after the lot has been sold, the auction house does not know how much you would have bid.
